The Client wishes to appoint a Management Accountant to play a pivotal role in ensuring the efficient and accurate processing and reporting of finances. The environment is complex and busy, requiring the Management Accountant to manage multiple and competing deadlines to ensure the delivery of financial and management information against a monthly, termly, and annual reporting timetable.Essential to the success of this role is a keen eye for detail and the ability to develop sensitive relationships with multiple stakeholders, including students, senior management, and academic Fellows. The Management Accountant will work closely with the Accounts Team to implement systems and process improvements aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing month-end reporting timeframes.A sound technical knowledge of VAT in a charity setting, fund accounting, and reporting under the Charities SORP would be desirable. This role offers the successful candidate the opportunity to develop professionally as the endowment and activities expand.



Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Production of monthly management accounts and budget holder reporting in line with the established timetable.
  • Production of balance sheet reports and review of all balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintenance of Fixed Assets ledger and reconciliation to nominal ledger on a monthly basis.
  • Assistance with the production of statutory accounts and returns.
  • Maintenance and reconciliation of donations records and bank accounts by liaising with Development to ensure accurate processing.
  • Assistance with managing the annual audit and liaison with auditors.
  • Liaison with the Development Office to ensure donations are correctly recorded, gift aid declarations are in place, and gift aid is claimed correctly.
  • Assistance with cash flow management and reporting.
  • Preparation of VAT returns, VAT annual adjustment reporting, and any necessary capital goods scheme adjustments.
  • Compiling strategies that will reduce costs.
  • Obtaining finance for projects such as Fellowships.
  • Advising on financial implications of decisions made by the Client.
  • Developing and overseeing financial systems and procedures while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Controlling income and expenditure to ensure alignment with budgets.
  • Assistance with preparation of forecasts and budgets.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the Accounts Office.
  • Overseeing payroll operations.
  • Maintaining accounts for any subsidiary companies developed by the Client.
  • Deputising for the Accountant when required.
  • Addressing ad hock queries from other departments and stakeholders.
