Your new companyAre you passionate about applying your computational biology skills to discover new drugs?
Do you want to join a dynamic and innovative team of experts in biology, informatics and drug discovery?
If so, you might be interested in working for a leading pharmaceutical company who are adding to their well-established bioinformatics team.
They have a highly collaborative and social atmosphere, with a mix of experience and backgrounds and a great working atmosphere.Your new roleAs a bioinformatician you will be focused on the bioinformatics analysis of data from a wide range of experiments, eg using mouse or human clinical data, and supporting researchers on multiple programmes.
You will manage bioinformatics projects within drug discovery & development, looking at aspects such as target prioritisation and validation. You will also be working closely with biology and computer science / software colleagues to support them on cross-functional projects.
These projects will likely focus on functional genomics and RNAseq analysis, eg using internal pipelines to process single cell and bulk RNAseq or gene expression data for target identification and validation.
One of the key elements within this role is putting results / biological data into context for future work and supporting biology researchers to understand and validate results. This is initially a 12-month contract that may extend or go permanent. What you'll need to succeedAside from the ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team, you should have:
- An MSc or PhD (or equivalent experience) in bioinformatics, biology, data science or a related subject
- Hands-on expertise of analysing large scale biological (preferably genetic/ functional genomic) data sets: eg bulk / scRNAseq or proteomic data
- Programming / scripting skills in Python and/or R, eg having developed or optimised pipelines or similar, as well as a familiarity with Bash or Shell scripting
- Data visualisation skills, eg using ggplot or RShiny apps
- The ability to work closely with wet lab biologists to interpret and contextualise experimental data and suggest possible future work
- An interest in problem-solving
Knowledge of the following would be an advantage but are not required:
- Machine Learning
- Drug discovery / development, eg target identification and validation work using gene expression or similar data
What you'll get in returnYou will get a generous hourly rate, as well as the opportunity to work on cutting-edge drug discovery and development projects that aim to improve the lives of millions of people for a leading pharmaceutical company. You will also get the chance to grow your skills and career in a supportive and collaborative environment that values innovation, creativity and excellence and be supported by highly experienced colleagues. What you need to do nowIf you are interested in this role, please apply online with your CV.
