The role
Our client seeks to recruit a Deputy Director of Development to join their Development Office. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced fundraising and alumni relations professional to advance their career and play their part in the development, implementation and success of the centenary campaign.

The central responsibility of the Deputy Director is to raise money for our clients key priorities. This will be achieved through face-to-face fundraising, as well as taking responsibility for and applying strategic oversight to our clients Regular Giving and Stewardship programmes.

The Deputy Director will manage the prospect pipelines for the Development Team, supporting the Major Giving programme, and identify and cultivate a pool of mid-level and major prospects. The Deputy Director will also take ownership over the Development Offices overall data management and financial systems, and will line-manage the Campaigns and Data Officer and the Development Officer.

The post holder will be responsible for the general day-to-day running of the gift administration, including gift processing, data entry, and budgeting, ensuring effective and efficient systems are in place for successful fundraising and alumni relations programmes.

Responsibilities and duties
Main Responsibilities
? Work closely with the Director of Development and the Head of Development Operations to develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for potential and current mid level and major donors
? Over see the implementation of a comprehensive stewardship and recognition programme for all donors, ensuring an annual calendar of communications and reporting is delivered and maintained. ? Responsible for all aspects of the Development Teams fundraising financial operations, including the management and oversight of the database, fundraising systems and processes
? In collaboration with the Director of Development, oversee the implementation of the fundraising strategies by systematically managing the Development Teams pipelines of mid-level and major gift donors and prospects
? Over see the movement of prospects through the gift cycle and evaluate the effectiveness of related operations
? Plan and develop a fundraising portfolio of mid-level and major gifts Strategy
? As a senior manager in the Development team, contribute to the leadership and development of the fundraising and alumni engagement strategies, including the future campaign strategy, and take the lead on some aspects of the overall strategy
? Work closely with the Director of Development to create fundraising literature, including campaign literature and collateral
? Draft and develop fundraising proposals, cases for support, gift agreements, stewardship reports, and other relevant fundraising materials Management
? Assume a leadership role in the Development Team. Lead, mentor, and effectively line manage the Campaigns and Data Officer, the Development Officer and other Development staff as required
? Plan and oversee Development Office recruitment
? Foster a culture of positivity, collaborative working and continuous improvement, providing team leadership and support in meeting high standards of delivery
? Provide expert advice on philanthropic best practices to the team and colleagues Financial and data operations (with support from the Development Team)
? Responsible for the overall data strategy and ensuring the data is as accurate and up-to-date as possible
? Provide expertise and leadership to the Development Team in producing quality data to support all aspects of development and alumni relations activity
? Over see the teams execution of fundraising financial operations, continually seeking to improve and streamline workstreams
? Over see the Regular Giving strategy (including Telethon fundraising), in collaboration with the Regular Giving team (Campaigns and Data Officer and Development Officer)
? Ensure all donations secured are in line with our clients policies and comply with relevant tax- efficiency regulations, and that donations are acknowledged and thanked promptly and appropriately
? Implement and monitor the payment and reminder activity on pledges, including major gift pledges, and produce regular reports and updates
? Responsible for ensuring due diligence and clearance procedures are carried out for all potential donors Internal Collaboration '
? Work alongside the Director of Development and the Head of Development Operations to ensure the office runs in a smooth, efficient and effective manner, deputising for the Development Director when required
? Attend Development and Alumni Relations events to host, cultivate and steward alumni, donors and prospects, as well as help with the event delivery on the day
? Attend and support committee meetings, coordinating, in particular, the preparations for the internal Development Committee meeting
? Work collaboratively with the Development and Alumni Relations Team in all areas, and liaise and collaborate with other departments to facilitate and progress projects and to ensure the smooth running of the Development Office.

Skills and experience
? Proactive and self-sufficient
? Solid understanding of Development work within the higher education sector
? Able to respond sensitively and appropriately to a variety of situations
? Mass fundraising experience in an organisation of equivalent or greater complexity
? Proven ability to build relationships and work collaboratively
? Experience managing and training team members, including having indirect responsibility for the work of others
? Highly numerate, with Donor Management Database expertise and demonstrable experience developing databases, data entry systems and manipulating data
? Experience in developing and implementing strategy, including systems and workflows
? Excellent oral and written communication skills
? Meticulous attention to detail; able to work well and with accuracy under pressure
? Skilled in project management; can problem-solve and work flexibly, adapting to changing priorities
? Comfortable working in ambiguous multi-stakeholder situations and influencing without direct authority
? Familiarity and comfort with discussing financial issues and inviting philanthropic support
