A day in the life:

A day in the life of a CAMHS nurse begins with a team handover, reviewing cases and prioritizing visits or appointments. The morning may involve assessing young people struggling with mental health issues, conducting risk assessments, and offering therapeutic interventions in clinics, schools, or home settings. Building trust with patients and families is crucial, as is collaborating with psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists to develop care plans. The afternoon might involve crisis interventions, follow-ups, or multidisciplinary meetings to ensure coordinated support. Documentation and care planning are key before the day ends with a debrief, ensuring a continuous and holistic approach to each young person’s mental health needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Post qualification experience in a mental health setting, working with young people or adults with mental illness.
  • Experience of working with children and young people who have serious mental illness and their families and carers in the community
  • To be able to function as part of multi-disciplinary team and liaise with external agencies i.e. primary care, education, social and health care.
  • Ability to organise own time and diary and that of junior staff and learners
  • Car driver. Willingness to drive for work purposes

Requirements and qualifications required for this role:

  • Current and valid registration with the NMC.
  • Proven experience as a social worker.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to providing high-quality patient care.
