Spencer Clarke Group are working with a local authority to help secure them a Functional Skills Tutor on a contract basis.

You will be working as a Migrant Functional Skills Tutor within English and Maths.

The purpose of the job is to:

  • Work as a tutor for 16-19 migrant students recently arrived from Afghanistan who cannot access school / college because places are full.
  • The postholder will be responsible for tutoring small groups of students (10-12) which will include baseline assessment and managing the differentiated learning.
  • Funding supports working with Afghan children and young people across the county
  • The postholder will work within the Migrant Education, Employment and Adult Skills team
  • The role is integral to the Migrant Employment Framework that supports newly arrived migrants into work for education.
  • A major focus will be on 16-19 year olds in a co-ordinated approach that links school EAL to adult ESOL.


We are ideally seeking someone who:

  • Has experience of teaching functional skills English and or Maths in a further education or community setting
  • Is Familiar with functional skills curriculum
  • Has experience of conducting baseline assessments
  • Is an active and effective communicator
  • Hold an academic qualification at level 3 or higher



This role is 25-30 hours per week, and open to discussions about flexible working.
29 - 34 per hour depending on qualifications
