IT Manager (IT Lead) - Innovative Scientific Tech Startup - Oxford Uni Spin-off

Join an exciting and well funded Scientific Tech startup that has spun out from Oxford University and whose products relate to AI and high-performance computing systems!
I’m looking for a hands-on IT Lead / IT Manager who is up for the challenge of working in a greenfield environment to plan and deliver their IT strategy for a scaling business that is currently 30 users but with plans to double in size over the next 2 years. They need an IT Manager who has the hands-on technical ability, communication skills, vision and gravitas to deliver all the IT Infrastructure, Networking, Security and Software install and upgrade process. You will also need excellent stakeholder management skills to vary your communication style from dealing with highly technical users with differing computing requirements and C-Suite employees who want to know the business benefit. You will be an IT Department of 1 to begin with but will be responsible for resource planning and hiring an IT team in the future.
Role Highlights:
- Develop and implement comprehensive IT infrastructure strategies
- Oversee cybersecurity, remote access, and critical systems
- Manage network security, identity management, and system resilience
- Lead IT architecture, policies, and procedures
Key Requirements:
- 7+ years of IT environment management experience
- Strong networking and security skills
- Expertise in Windows & M365 Active Directory
- Experience scaling IT systems in high-growth startup environments
- Certification in Windows client infrastructure and RedHat Linux
Desired Skills:
- Linux experience (especially Debian-derived OS)
- Containerization knowledge (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Familiarity with engineering SaaS systems
- Compliance framework experience (ISO27001)
Location: Hybrid Working - 2 days per week in the Central Oxford office
Duration: Permanent
Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 + benefits + stock options
