Job Description

We are recruiting a Project Engineer on behalf of our client. This role involves project planning, engineering, and management tasks to optimize IT systems for clients. The successful candidate will collaborate with team members, implement network solutions, and ensure project success.

Key ResponsibilitiesSolution Specification / Proposals / Quoting

  • Identify IT solutions to problems with the guidance of the Projects Manager.

  • Assist with writing proposal documents.

  • Use quoting tools to produce quotations for customers.

Project Work

  • Assist in managing projects under the guidance of the Projects Manager.

  • Liaise with customer stakeholders to provide timely updates on project status.

  • Work with customer end users as needed for training and handover.

  • Identify and resolve unexpected project issues.

  • Use ConnectWise Manage to track project progress.

  • Collaborate with other departments to utilize additional resources.

  • Document all work and handover information to clients as needed.

Escalated Support

  • Act as a technical escalation resource for complex support tickets.

Change Management

  • Assist with infrastructure changes under managed contracts, including:

    • Switch/firewall reconfiguration

    • Migration to new software

    • Major software version upgrades

Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Identify software/firmware vulnerabilities and deploy necessary patches.

  • Assist in system update deployments.

  • Manage hardware lifecycles and warranties.

  • Analyze trending data to anticipate future growth needs.

Site Visits

  • Conduct regular site visits for larger clients (weekly/fortnightly/monthly as required).

  • Attend client sites for tasks beyond service team scope, such as:

    • Installing/replacing networking/server infrastructure.

    • Complex reconfiguration work.

    • Emergency site visits requiring high-level problem-solving.

Key Technical Skills Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in IT/computing.

  • Demonstrable experience in IT project work.

  • Microsoft 365:

    • Exchange Online, SharePoint/OneDrive, Intune, Entra ID.

  • Knowledge of business backup software (e.g., Veeam).

  • Password management software (e.g., Bitwarden, LastPass).

  • On-premise Windows Server systems:

    • Active Directory / Windows DHCP (including failover) / DNS.

    • Hyper-V.

  • Strong networking foundation, including:

    • IP addressing and subnetting.

    • Switching and routing.

    • VLANs.

  • Understanding of hardware firewall principles.

  • Single sign-on and identity management principles.

  • Proficiency in PowerShell.

Nice to Haves

  • Co-Managed SIEM experience.

  • IT quoting tools.

  • Experience with:

    • FortiGate firewalls & FortiClient EMS.

    • Cisco Meraki & Cisco SMB/IOS-XE.

    • SAML or OAuth SSO solutions (e.g., Entra ID, Okta, JumpCloud).

    • Scripting experience.

    • Hyperconverged infrastructure.

    • SANs.

    • Google Workspace administration.

    • Salesforce administration.

    • Zoom Rooms administration.

Other Requirements

  • A valid UK driving license and full use of a personal car (mileage expenses covered).

  • This role is based at the client's Oxford office. Remote work is considered on an ad-hoc basis for special/personal reasons or project requirements.
