Are you passionate about demonstrating the value of education to vulnerable children?A well-respected specialist school near Oxted is looking for a Mental Health Assistant to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. The students range between 7 and 16 years old, and face a range of SEMH needs, and challenges including trauma, anxiety, OCD, and behavioural issues.

Some children / young people will have suffered adverse childhood experiences, and you will identify their risks and needs, escalating where necessary. Many of the children face various barriers in life and are more 'at risk' of negative outcomes. You will be instrumental in building relationships, providing consistency, and equipping children and young people with tools to ensure they feel safe, secure, empowered, and believe that they can succeed in life, reducing the risk of them entering the criminal justice system.

The students therefore need a Mental Health Assistant who will be dedicated to being a consistent role model, is committed to building strong relationships, is empathetic and up for a challenge!The ideal Mental Health Assistant must be open-minded, resilient, and knowledgeable about mental health. The perfect candidate will have experience with SEN children and/or adults in any setting. Graduates in Social Care, Psychology, Criminology or Counselling would also be perfect for this position. Being local to Oxted is a bonus.

Based on holistic and therapeutic practice, with a focus on restorative practice, this role will give you essential restorative experience within anti-social and challenging settings.
