The post - Skills Development Mentor
We have a vacancy within our Disability Team in our Paisley Campus for a reliable and committed individual to carry out the role of Skills Development Mentor.
Reporting to the NMPH Team Coordinator our Skills Development Mentors provide specialist 1:1 practical and emotional support for students with additional needs. They encourage independent learning by developing study skills and problem-solving strategies with their students. They offer practical help in the library, help with organising study spaces and study materials and will liaise and encourage communication with lecturing and support staff.
Please not this role is an hourly paid position with the hours of work rotating on a weekly basis.
The successful candidate should have the following:
- HND or equivalent, or relevant experience
- Higher English, or relevant experience
- Relevant experience of supporting learners in Higher and Further Education
- Experience of working with adults with disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and / or Mental Health difficulties
- Experience of providing a professional response to people from range of backgrounds and with diverse communication styles and requirements, and dealing with sensitive issues
- Experience of maintaining confidentiality, personal qualities of reliability and trustworthiness.
- High level of communications skills and active listening skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
