Management Accountant

37 hours per week

Salary range £26,699.00 to £30,000.00 per annum (dependent upon experience) 

39 days annual leave (including Bank Holiday and Company days) + salary sacrifice pension scheme +2 wellbeing days a year + weekly exercise and wellbeing hours

This is a dual based role working from Lilleshall National Sports Centre, nr Newport, Shropshire (2 days a week) and from home

As a key member of the Finance team, you will collaborate closely with departmental budget holders and their teams across the organisation to produce accurate and timely monthly management accounts. To ensure the accounts are produced efficiently and on schedule, you will be responsible for continuously monitoring and reviewing all source data. This includes adopting a proactive approach and taking corrective actions as necessary to ensure accurate reconciliation of all control accounts. The Role
The main responsibilities of the role are:

  •    Prepare monthly variance analysis at a departmental level
  •    Analyse cost centres and departmental data monthly 
  •    Prepare and issue budget/forecast input templates quarterly to relevant budget holders 
  •    Schedule and attend at least monthly meetings with budget holders 
  •    Prepare monthly trend analysis to discuss performance with budget holders.
  •    Train new starters and budget holders on financial processes, systems, coding structure, pre-payments, etc.,       as required.
  •    Provide ad hoc analytical support to the Head of Procurement as needed.
  •    Oversee and review the accuracy and processing of all financial transactions, including debtor and creditor         transactions, VAT rates, staff and volunteer expenses, and project costs.
  •    Prepare quarterly grant submissions, collating and reviewing all data with the relevant budget holder.
  •    Review membership income in collaboration with the Membership Manager and prepare and post deferred         income journals.
  •   Prepare quarterly VAT returns, reviewing all VAT-related data monthly and investigating and resolving any            errors.
  •   Manage bank accounts and control accounts, ensuring all mandates are up to date and maintained.
  •   Check and analyse the fixed asset register and process fixed asset journals.
  •   Reconcile the project ledger to the general ledger.
  •   Prepare prepayments and accruals for review.
  •   Provide cover for purchase ledger/sales ledger during holidays or periods of absence.

The Person

  • Applicants will need to demonstrate:
  • Solid knowledge, understanding, and prior experience of accounts preparation and processes.
  • Confidence and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with budget holders, colleagues, suppliers, and customers.
  •  Excellent numeracy and analytical skills.
  •  A strong understanding of MS Excel and formulas (e.g., IF statements, INDEXMATCH, pivot tables) and cloud-   based accounting software.
  •  Diligence, displaying excellent accuracy and attention to detail.
  •  Flexibility, adapting to the requirements of the organisation.
  •  Resilience, with the ability to meet the demands of the organisation during periods of high workload.
  •  Confidentiality and discretion when dealing with sensitive data.
  •  A formal AAT qualification or equivalent accountancy qualification.
  • To be successful, the role holder will require knowledge and understanding of business aims, activities, priorities, budget cycles, requirements, commercial objectives, and sales patterns.
