Your New Role

Specialist sub-contractor based in Midlothian requires the assistance of an experienced Quantity Surveyor.

The primarily purpose of the Quantity Surveyors role will have you working across various contracts ensuring the maximum commercial benefit for the company and will entail a cradle to grave delivery from tender stage through to final accounts and all-encompassing duties in between.

This is a part-time position and, as such, we anticipate it could suit an individual who is perhaps semi-retired, or a freelancer who could spare 1 day per week.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies to estimate materials, time, and labour costs.
  • Manage project finances and ensure cost control measures are in place.
  • Evaluate and negotiate subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Monitor project progress and variations to ensure financial implications are understood.
  • Prepare monthly valuations, monitor agreed payment terms, liaise with Main Contractor QS on payless notices or non-payment of applications.
  • Ensuring outstanding accounts are collected, chase and resolve debts.
  • Knowledge of sub-contractor self-billing tax invoices
  • Prepare CIS returns.

Requirements

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying or related field
  • Membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) preferred.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
  • Proficient in cost management software
  • Experience in cost control is advantageous.
