I am working with an international Multi-Disciplinary to recruit a Principal Highways Engineer with Local Authority highways schemes in Cumbria. My client has recently been successful in their bid for the County Framework.

You will be required to take one the leadership of projects including Active Travel Cycleways, Junction improvements, Road Alignments and much more.

Prior experience of the Cumbria County Council projects would be ideal but if you haven't, substantial local authority highways projects with other Local Authorities is essential.

You will have the backing of a National Highways team and be offered the resource you need to deliver with Design Engineers and Technicians already in the team.

Principal Highways Engineer Responsibilities

  • Responsible for managing technical aspects of larger projects or components of major projects, meeting financial, quality and timeframe objectives and meeting or exceeding client expectations
  • May undertake a Project Management Role in line with each projects needs.
  • Work alongside team leadership
  • Manage the delivery of elements of larger projects in accordance with Management Systems to meet time, quality, budgetary and health and safety targets
  • Working to ensure maximum client satisfaction, championing client care and proactively working with the client
  • Promote the culture of the business

Principal Highway Engineer Key Accountabilities

  • Work collaboratively with other design disciplines within an agreed engineering management environment to ensure the integration of the overall design or solution
  • Develop and maintain a good understanding of the services delivered by the consultancy, of the client's business and the industry sector to facilitate personal networking and to consolidate personal and company credibility in the industry
  • Oversee an agreed scope of work and the operational workload of a project team including sub-contractors, ensuring work are allocated appropriately and resources are fully utilised
  • Manage the performance of team members and sub-contractors, identifying and ensuring the resolution of any issues
  • Present and gains agreement of design options and opportunities to maximise the profitability of design components and drive the implementation of these
  • Provide technical advice to team members, to support them in their delivery on the project and in their professional development
  • Ensuring that effective financial and project management controls are in place and deployed to enable monitoring, modification and forecasting as appropriate
  • Provide specialised technical input to studies and design for staff's specific area of expertise
  • Provide technical leadership at a project level
  • Approve and signs off on work

Principal Highways Engineer Key Qualifications

  • Have a BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in a relevant discipline
  • Achieved Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional status, or equivalent
  • Relevant experience including supervision of elements of large, complex projects
