I am currently recruiting a FreelanceArchaeological Clerk of Workson a major Highways upgrade in Cumbria.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the provision of professional advice to the project team on the progress of archaeological programme on a major Highways project.

As Freelance Archaeological Clerk of Works, you will be responsible for;

  • Advising the client on mitigation of the impacts of the development on the archaeological resource. This might include avoidance, micro-siting, design alternatives or preservation through excavation and recording.
  • Liaise with all relevant bodies and individuals, including the developer, design teams, site contractors, Local Planning Authorities and stakeholders.
  • Carrying out monitoring and excavations, preparing method statements and producing regular reports on progress to the client and for planning authorities.
  • Examining issues, making practical decisions quickly, before delays escalate.
  • Building a positive working relationship between the ACow and the main contractor, designers, local authority curators and other stakeholders.

As Freelance Archaeological Clerk of Works, you will have the following experience and qualifications;

  • Experience of archaeological site works.
  • Qualified to degree level in archaeology or relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Membership of CIfA and/or other appropriate professional body.
