Astute's Renewables team is partnering with a key business and influential player in the global energy market. The company have a vast portfolio of renewable energy assets and have a brilliant company culture of looking after their employees. We are working together to recruit a General Site Operative to support civil and general site works on utility scale solar farms around Peterborough and surrounding areas.

The purpose of the General Site Operative role is to operative machinery, assist skilled workers and ensure work is carried out safely in a well-maintained environment, with a salary up to 30,000 + van, fuel card, overtime and development opportunities.

Responsibilities and duties

Reporting to the O&M Regional Manager, you will:

  • Prepare and maintain construction sites by setting up barriers, fencing, signage, and other safety equipment.
  • Assist in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, drainage systems, and other infrastructure.
  • Support excavation and groundwork for ducting and related works.
  • Carry out manual labour tasks, including lifting, digging, and moving materials.
  • Operate construction equipment such as diggers, dumpers, and excavators under supervision.
  • Remove vegetation and obstructions from under frameworks, replace or repair damaged fencing around the site perimeter.
  • Ensure all materials are handled and stored correctly, following safety regulations.
  • Perform general maintenance of site tools and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on-site.
  • Assist skilled workers such as technicians, electricians, and contractors.
  • Monitor and maintain a tidy and organised work area.
  • Report any issues or concerns regarding equipment, safety, or work progress to the site supervisor.
  • Follow project plans and timelines, contributing to timely project delivery.



Professional qualifications

We are looking for someone with the following:

  • Previous experience in a general operative or labouring role, ideally within in the civil engineering industry.
  • Understanding of site regulations and H&S protocols.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • CSCS card preferred.
