Engine Electronic Systems Engineer

Location: Peterborough, UK
Contract: 12 Months (likely to extend)
Rate: Up to 25.05 p/h
Hours: 37 per week | Mon-Thurs 08:30-16:45 | Fri 08:30-16:15
Start Date: ASAP
Hybrid Working: Initial full on-site, hybrid after onboarding (~3 days/week)



About the Role

TeamJobs is recruiting for an Engine Electronic Systems Engineer to join our client team in Peterborough. This exciting and diverse role sits within Electronics, a division responsible for developing advanced electrical and electronic control systems of powertrains.

You'll play a key role in supporting the entire product lifecycle - from early-stage development and validation to post-production maintenance - for electronic engine control systems. This position is ideal for an engineer who thrives in a cross-functional, technically challenging environment.



Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in system architecture definition, component selection, and schematic development

  • Support FMEA activities and validation test plans

  • Troubleshoot and resolve quality issues within the electronic systems

  • Provide technical input on pinouts, schematics, and software functionality

  • Coordinate with development partners and internal teams throughout product lifecycle

  • Ensure compliance with customer and regulatory requirements



What You'll Need

Must-Have Skills:

  • Proven knowledge of engine electronic systems and fault-finding at system level

  • Experience in requirements engineering, FMEA, and feature definition

  • Strong ability to interpret technical schematics and component specifications

  • Knowledge of CAN communication protocols and tools such as CANape and CANalyzer

  • Experience troubleshooting using oscilloscopes and diagnostic tools

  • Relevant degree in Electronics Engineering (or HNC with equivalent experience)

Desirable Experience:

  • Background in diesel/off-highway engines or comparable automotive, marine, or military applications

  • Familiarity with systems like fuel/air delivery and engine governors

  • Working knowledge of Teamcenter, DOORS, Creo, or similar tools

  • Exposure to PPAP, validation planning, and systems integration
