Senior Quantity Surveyor - Major Pipeline Water Project - Peterborough

A leading civil engineering firm, is seeking a highly experienced and commercially astute Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team on a major pipeline water project in the Peterborough area. This is a unique opportunity to lead the commercial aspects of a critical infrastructure project, contributing to the development of vital water resources for the region.

Responsibilities:

  • Commercial Leadership: Lead the commercial aspects of the project, ensuring cost-effective execution while maintaining project quality and timelines.
  • Contract Management: Administer and manage contracts with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, managing variations, and resolving potential disputes.
  • Cost Control & Analysis: Maintain meticulous control over project costs, ensuring adherence to budgets and proactively identifying potential cost deviations. Utilize cost control software and analytical tools to monitor expenses and implement cost-saving measures.
  • Financial Reporting: Prepare and maintain comprehensive financial reports, including cost breakdowns, variance analyses, and budget forecasts. Provide regular reports to the project team and stakeholders, offering clear insights and recommendations.
  • Claims Management: Evaluate and manage claims from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring fairness and compliance with contract terms. Negotiate settlements and potentially prepare claims on behalf of the company.
  • Value Engineering: Lead value engineering exercises to identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising project quality or functionality.
  • Commercial Strategy: Contribute to the development of the overall commercial strategy for the project, including risk mitigation, cost optimization, and procurement planning.
  • Team Leadership: Provide guidance and mentorship to junior quantity surveyors and other members of the commercial team.


Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor on major infrastructure projects, ideally with experience in water or pipeline projects.
  • A strong understanding of construction contracts, including NEC3 and JCT contracts.
  • Proficiency in using cost control software and financial management systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex financial information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen eye for detail and a focus on accuracy.
  • Proactive and organized, with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines under pressure.
