Job Title: Learning Support Worker

Locations: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

Working Hours: 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM (working hours might be different depending on department)

Salary: £11.90 per hour + £1.44 Statutory holiday pay

IMPORTANT: Learning Support Worker is NOT on the immigration salary list/ Shortage Occupation List. With Skilled Worker Visa or Health and Care Worker visa you can't work with QRS.

Role Description:

As a Learning Support Worker, your primary responsibility will be to provide assistance to students who require support to fully engage in their learning experience. This includes collaborating with teaching staff, clarifying instructions, promoting independence, and fostering positive relationships with learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clarify, simplify, and amplify instructions to support comprehension.
  • Maintain student focus, motivation, and engagement throughout learning activities.
  • Collaborate with tutors to plan and deliver tailored support for students.
  • Proactively gather information about individual student needs and provide feedback for effective support monitoring.
  • Assist in maintaining acceptable standards of student behaviour and attitudes.
  • Develop resources and strategies to help students access the learning environment and promote independence.
  • Foster positive relationships with learners, tutors, and colleagues.
  • Promote and facilitate the use of assistive software and equipment.
  • Support students in developing literacy and study skills.
  • Assist with exam support, including invigilation and scribing.
  • Undertake personal research to enhance knowledge of specific conditions/disabilities.
  • Adhere to best practice guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records and attend regular meetings for review and evaluation purposes.
  • Accompany students on trips and work experience opportunities as needed.

Contract Types:

This position offers a wide range of contract types, including temporary, full-time, and part-time options to fit around your lifestyle. The minimum hours that can be offered is 16 hours per week, with full-time positions ranging from 30-35 hours per week depending on location. This is a term time only position, payment is based on the hours worked. In this arrangement, the pay is directly linked to the amount of time invested in work responsibilities. Holiday and time spent off from work is NOT paid.

Payment is on a monthly basis and is one month in arrears. It is paid via PAYE therefore tax and NI is deducted where applicable. Statutory holiday is accrued for every hour worked. All holiday pay is paid at the same time as your normal monthly pay for hours worked.

Minimum requirements:

  • Ability to inspire and engage students, with a passion for teaching and learning.
  • Organized with strong time management skills.
  • A*-C in Maths and English.
  • Proficiency in IT is advantageous.
