Support Worker
Location: Peterborough
Salary: £15 - £17 per hour
Hours: up to 40 hours per week (09:00 – 17:00, five days per week with flexibility) Job share considered.
Do you enjoy supporting clients with rehabilitation both in the home and the community to enable them to lead full and active lives? Are you an experienced and enthusiastic Support Worker looking for a rewarding and active full time or part time role?
The Role
The purpose of the Rehabilitation Support Worker role is to support the client’s independence and confidence to do all the things he loves to do. The successful candidate will need to be a sociable, energetic and positive character who will share some or all of the same interests, especially football.
There is likely to be the opportunity to accompany the client on day trips including Peterborough United away matches, or evenings out as well as the occasional holiday or short break. Flexibility to take on these extra hours when required is essential.
The client lives at home with his family where you will be required to support the daily rehabilitation programmes which have been put in place by his team of therapists. These principles and techniques will also need to be implemented in the local and wider community when supporting him. The successful candidate will be required to help with some client related domestic chores including planning activities, managing budgets, supporting with food preparation and household tasks including cleaning of the hot tub.
The Client
The client is a friendly and active 30 year old man who lives in his non-smoking family home with his mother and twin brother. He has mild learning disabilities and dyskinetic cerebral palsy, having suffered a brain injury at birth, together with fatigue and occasional low mood. He embraces a host of interests/hobbies during his busy weekly schedule, regardless of his challenges. He has his own car and holds a full driving licence, can see and hear well and is able to make his wishes known.
Interests & Hobbies:
The client is a passionate football fan, supporting Peterborough United where he attends all the local matches, and Chelsea FC. He also loves boxing, going to the gym, going to concerts, comedy nights, quiz nights as well as more restful interests including watching films, listening to music and gaming on his PS5. He enjoys using his hot tub, particularly after a gym or other exercise session.
Available Hours
- Up to 40 hours per week (phone number removed), 5 days per week with flexibility.
- Job share for two Support Workers considered.
Rates of Pay
- Monday - Friday: £15.00 per hour
- Saturday & Sunday: £17.00 per hour
- Bank Holidays: 1.5 times usual weekday hourly rate
Person Specification
This position would suit an active, energetic Support Worker who is able to support the client’s physically demanding activities and hobbies in a positive, encouraging and reassuring way, whilst being respectful and sensitive to the needs and wishes of the family.
Essential requirements:
- Experience of working with young adults with disabilities and/or community-based rehabilitation.
- Excellent clear communication and social skills with ability to adapt to client, family and professionals.
- Competent in the use of IT
- Excellent planning skills with the ability to competently risk assess activities.
A full clean UK driving licence would be advantageous to be able to drive the client’s vehicle on occasion, if required.
