Job Title: Lead Process Engineer (Water Treatment)

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

The Role:
We are seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Process Engineer to join our team and play a vital role in the successful delivery of a major water treatment project for Anglian Water in Peterborough. You will be responsible for leading all aspects of process engineering, from design and specification development through to construction and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process Design & Engineering:

* Lead the development of detailed process designs and specifications for the water treatment plant, ensuring compliance with Anglian Water standards, industry regulations, and best practices.
* Conduct process simulations, feasibility studies, and optimization analyses to ensure the design meets performance targets.
* Prepare technical documentation, including process flow diagrams, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and equipment specifications.

  • Construction & Commissioning Oversight:

* Oversee the construction and commissioning of the water treatment plant, ensuring the process equipment and systems are installed and integrated correctly.
* Provide technical guidance to the construction team, including the resolution of technical issues and the implementation of changes.
* Conduct commissioning tests, performance verification, and troubleshooting to ensure the plant meets operational requirements.

  • Project Management:

* Contribute to the overall project planning, scheduling, and budget management.
* Work collaboratively with the project manager and other engineers to ensure project success.
* Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Safety & Compliance:

* Adhere strictly to all safety regulations and procedures, including working in confined spaces, wearing personal protective equipment, and following company safety protocols.
* Ensure all work is performed in a safe and compliant manner.

  • Communication & Reporting:

* Communicate effectively with the project team, Anglian Water representatives, and other stakeholders.
* Prepare progress reports and updates for the project manager.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

  • Essential:

* Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
* Minimum of 8 years of experience in process engineering, ideally within the water treatment industry.
* In-depth understanding of water treatment processes, technologies, and best practices.
* Strong knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations, and codes (e.g., AWWA, EPA).
* Experience in process design, simulation, and optimization.
* Proficient in using process engineering software (e.g., Aspen, HYSYS, ProSim).
* Experience with construction and commissioning activities in water treatment plants.
* Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
* Proven ability to lead and manage teams.

  • Desirable:

* Experience working with Anglian Water or other water utilities.
* Knowledge of SCADA systems and control systems used in water treatment plants.
* Experience with project management methodologies (e.g., PRINCE2, Agile).
* Familiarity with Barhale's project management processes.
