Mechanical Design Engineer - Mining Sector

Location: Pickering

KO2 are seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic and innovative team based in Pickering, designing and developing complex instrumentation used in the mining sector. This is a unique opportunity to work on robust, high-performance products that are built to withstand harsh environments and challenging conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of mechanical systems using SolidWorks.
  • Apply your extensive knowledge of mechanical engineering techniques to create sturdy, reliable products tailored for the mining sector.
  • Perform stress analysis and calculations for systems exposed to a range of pressures, ensuring all designs meet safety and durability standards.
  • Work with a variety of materials, including non-corrosive alloys, precious metals, plastics, and more, selecting the best materials for the job.
  • Take a lead role in projects, working in a multi-disciplinary team, ensuring that mechanical systems integrate seamlessly with electrical, structural, and industrial systems.
  • Understand the full system design, from the overall product environment to the technical details of every component.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • SolidWorks experience is essential, with a strong ability to design complex mechanical systems.
  • A comprehensive knowledge of a wide range of mechanical engineering techniques including stresses, calculations, and multi-discipline system design.
  • Experience designing for harsh environments with an understanding of materials suited for extreme conditions (corrosion resistance, high pressures, etc.).
  • A proven track record of taking a lead role in projects, coordinating with other engineering disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of the industrial design process, with 30% of the role focused on industrial aspects (ergonomics, user experience, and functional design).
  • Ability to think critically and solve complex mechanical problems with practical solutions.
