We are seeking an Assistant Management Accountant for one of our Manufacturing based clients in Plymouth. As a key member of the finance team, the successful candidate will be involved in preparing, scrutinising, managing and analysing the financial data that helps the business to make sound financial decisions. Your role incorporates recurring & ad-hoc tasks to maintain the financial records of the company, as well as ensuring compliance with all relevant financial governance and regulations, as well as internal policies and processes.

The position is to cover a period of maternity leave and is for a term of approximately 6 months, until the end of April 2025. You will be one of two management accountants within our small Finance Team and we plan to provide development opportunities for both during this period.

Whilst there are regular, routine tasks and processes to complete, the nature of our business is such that for the right person there may be opportunities to be involved in projects that expand the scope of your role, your understanding of the manufacturing and supply chain processes, and encourage your further development.

On satisfactory completion of a probationary period, we offer hybrid working-from-home for one day per week and a degree of flexibility with core hours working.

Key Responsibilities will include:

  • Produce financial data and analysis to support the Financial Controller and the business in making fact-based business decisions. For example, month end sales and gross margin analysis, and variance analysis for management accounts.
  • To contribute to the month end process, profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow.
  • To contribute to completion of the monthly management report.
  • Maintain and update KPI information.
  • Involved in budget and forecast processes when these take place.
  • Support monthly review and update of standard costs, including cost roll up process.
  • Identify potential opportunities to make improvements to finance procedures.
  • Maintain and oversee the online expenses system and act as key point of contact.
  • Support Financial Controller with year-end processes, accounts and year end audit
  • Support completion of payroll processes.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of financial systems and data reporting.
  • National Statistics Returns
  • Other ad hoc duties or cover as required.

Essential Experience / Qualifications and Attributes Required:

  • Minimum of AAT Qualified (or close to completion).
  • A level Maths or NVQ equivalent.
  • Microsoft Excel intermediate/advanced.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team Player mindset.
  • Continuous improvement mindset.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable:

  • Experience within the manufacturing or FMCG sector
  • SAP experience.
