The Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experience Senior Human Factors Engineer to join a world-leading, nuclear defence client based out of Devonport dockyard.

Job Overview:

Our client is responsible for supporting the maintenance of the Royal Navy's Fleet of surface ships and nuclear submarines both within the U.K. and oversees.Due to an increase in business demands, there is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced human factors professional at U.K. Devonport Royal Dockyard (DRD) site.

Some of your duties will include:

  • To assist the Electrical Services Engineering Lead in delivery of the electrical services related engineering work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule and cost.Responsible for managing the technical deliverables of the electrical services engineering packages in line with the planned deliverables agreed by the Electrical Services Engineering Lead.
  • Within SQEP profile, supervising, preparing and/or checking designs, analyses, reports, drawings, specifications and other documents in support of Nuclear and Non-Nuclear related plant, facility and equipment within the company's licensed, authorised and operational sites, or in support of external contracts.
  • To manage design work packages as Engineer, responsible as appointed by Manager. Supporting planning of activities, with respect to task durations, level of effort and estimated costs, through to provision of design deliverables with regular schedule reviews and progress reporting, utilising Earned Value Management methodologies, and construction support.
  • Make effective use of Learn from Experience information to develop and disseminate theoretical knowledge in relation to practical engineering and to maintain a record of development to substantiate the skills achieved.
  • Support development, construction, installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance of all Facilities to ensure that they comply with the design intent and DNSP's for Nuclear related Works, together with all relevant Local and National Regulations and Legislation.

What do you need to succeed?

  • First degree in Psychology plus MSc in Occupational Psychology, Applied Psychology or, Industrial Psychology,orErgonomics based discipline or an engineering degree with high psychological / ergonomics content (or equivalent).
  • The individual should be a Registered Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors or a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society with experience of working in the Human Factors field within high hazard industries.
  • Have significant experience working within high hazard process industries (e.g. nuclear, defence or petrochemical);
  • Have a sound understanding of nuclear safety assessment principles and safety case production;
  • Be familiar with both HF qualitative and quantitative HRA techniques (e.g. HEART, THERP, APJ);
