Knowledge & Skills

  • Mechanical engineering degree
  • Wing to wing understanding of the supply chain
  • Good business acumen and awareness of the steel market
  • CIPS level 4 or above
  • A Batchelors degree, or higher, in Manufacturing Engineering or related field
  • Ability to develop strong effective relationships internally and outside of the organisation
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Excel and SAP proficiency
  • Proactivity and showing initiative
  • Analytical mindset


Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for sourcing new direct components required for New Products Introductions (NPI) from existing or new suppliers. This requires understanding the specifications, drawings and technical data provided by the engineering team.
  • Be the subject matter expert for direct components and use this knowledge to support sourcing strategies and supplier relationships.
  • Use market and industry intelligence to identify, vet and qualify new suppliers
  • Identify the risks and threats in the Supply Chain. Rank these risks and address them by providing solutions for mitigation of the highest risks (developing new sources or strengthening the existing sources)
  • Identify cost savings opportunities and action them
  • Identify inventory reduction opportunities and action them
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers
  • Ensure compliance with sourcing and contracting policies, procedures, risk management programs, and ethics.
  • Mentor/educate suppliers as required as well as the rest of the Purchasing Team.
