Gym Manager / Site Manager
  • Annual Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 Depending on Experience.
  • Location: Plymouth
  • Job Type: Full-time (Monday - Friday, working hours between 8am & 8pm)
  • 37.5 Hours Per Week 

We are seeking a dedicated General Manager to oversee the daily operations of our gym. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, excellent organisational abilities, and a passion for success. The General Manager will ensure high levels of member satisfaction while managing a team of fitness instructors, personal trainers, and support staff towards achieving organisational goals.

Experience in the fitness industry is not required. We are looking for someone who wants to manage a large unit and ultimately be responsible for its success and general running i.e Health and Safety, Hygiene and Cleanliness, General Maintenance and Member Satisfaction.

The successful candidate will have an emergency mobile phone which they will need to have on them at all times. This phone is rarely called however would need to be answered in case of an emergency.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage and coordinate the team’s workflow, deadlines, and deliverables.
  • Ensure effective communication and collaboration among team members.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance, tracking progress and reporting results to senior management.
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
  • Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of gym facilities.
  • Develop strategies to improve member engagement and retention.
  • Handle member inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Monitor and manage the gym’s budget and financial performance.
  • Plan and coordinate events, classes, and special programs.
  • Conduct regular team meetings and training sessions.
  • Open and close the gym as per the established schedule, ensuring all security procedures are followed.
Key Holder Responsibilities:
  • Handle emergency situations and report incidents to management.
  • Perform routine checks to ensure all equipment and facilities are secure.
  • Be available to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
  • Carry the emergency mobile phone, ensuring it is charged and accessible at all times.
  • Coordinate with emergency services and management as needed during out-of-hours incidents.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Previous experience in a managerial role with a proven track record of success.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards in a work environment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
