The Company

Our client are part of global giant with over 60,000 employees around the world with a £15 Billion turnover and operations across 1,000 different sites.   Their Milton Keynes site employs 100 people and focuses on the design and manufacture of highly bespoke systems and mechanisms that form part of very niche special purpose machinery.

The systems the company develop are very unique with all systems being bespoke and consisting of anywhere between 60 and 300 individual components.  The client take new product development projects from concept through to completion are looking for a Mechanical Design & Project Engineer who will be leading these projects as well as reviewing designs for systems already in production.

This role will offer some huge technical challenges and a real variety of engineering work and problem solving with the complexity of the products they provide.

The Role

The role of Mechanical Design & Project Engineer will see you initially supporting any re-design work for systems currently in production where there are existing faults that need to be investigated.   This is a great way to get your head round what the business does, after this initial period you will start leading product development projects from concept to completion which will consist of:

  • Idea tabled for new system to be manufactured.
  • Design review led by the Mechanical Design & Project Engineer
  • DFMEA carried out
  • Calculations carried out to prove the system will work – flow calculations, ANSYS, tolerancing calculations for components.
  • 3D modelling with Soldworks for any new components that need to be manufactured such as mouldings, mechanical components, machined parts.
  • Simulation of product
  • Arranging for prototype build of product – liaising with any suppliers required for components.
  • Design verification and validation
  • Supporting with process FMEAs
  • Launch of product into production – supporting production with any re-engineering work as a result of product faults/manufacturing issues.

The Candidate

To be successful in your application for this Mechanical Design & Project Engineer role you will need:

  • An engineering degree
  • Some exposure to DFMEA processes
  • Experience in design verification and validation
  • Some experience in a mechanical design or design project related role.
  • To be a strong problem solver
  • To be good at multi tasking
