This is a great time to join our Children’s Services leadership team in Plymouth to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children. Our ILACS earlier this year confirmed that we are on the right tracks and under the leadership of our permanent Director of Children’s Services, David Haley, and our permanent Service Director for Children, Young People and Families Temilola Salimon, we now have an ambitious plan in place to further improve outcomes for all children, young people and families across Plymouth working as ‘One Children’s Service’ across our children’s social care and education services.

In Plymouth we work restoratively with children, young people and families by being trauma informed and strengths based, building relationships to understand lived experiences and provide the right support at the right time to enable long term positive change.

We are looking for a high performing individual to lead a key part of our service. You will bring to the role experience of managing a multi-disciplinary environment to contribute to the further development of our effective Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub, our Initial Response Teams and the effective operation of our Out of Hours service.

This opportunity requires a manager with a passion for working closely with partners to do the right thing for families, supporting professional curiosity and confident decision making to get families the right help at the right time. You will support clear pathways for families to early help, targeted and specialist services based on a clear evaluation of risks and need. At the heart of everything you do, will be a passion to ensure that children, young people and their families achieve positive and improved outcomes and are effectively safeguarded.

As an individual, you will embrace change as an opportunity for innovation and will have a track record in managing people well and bringing about performance gains. You will have demonstrated success in leading, motivating and inspiring others to deliver the best standards of practice, demonstrated by achieving both local and national performance expectations. You will bring to the role considerable senior management experience including managing people and service budgets effectively. A leadership or management qualification or evidence of higher related study would be an advantage. As an individual, you will embrace change as an opportunity for innovation and will have a track record in performance gains. You will be able to practice with confident authority ensuring that statutory guidance is followed, and new opportunities are identified and will provide expert and detailed advice to the Service Director, DCS and elected Members on a range of matters associated with your role.

What’s in it for you?

Key to our improvement is investing in our workforce and you will be joining a leadership team who are committed to bringing our ‘High Expectations, High Support, High Challenge’ culture into reality with access to a comprehensive leadership development programme and a supportive team culture.

We are making good progress. Partnership approaches are strong and a comprehensive workforce development offer from our Academy is supporting practice to improve further and supporting our workforce to progress their careers with Plymouth.

Plymouth is a great place to live and work and we offer access to a generous relocation package to enable you to benefit from a great quality of life in the fabulous south-west region. We offer flexible working hours and hybrid working with a modern office base and all of our Children’s Services teams on one site in the heart of Plymouth with the best sea views going!
