Surfacing / CAD Designer with experience in designing parts for moulding, interior and exterior furniture and good knowledge of NX 2D & 3D CAD, DFM and Surface Design is required for a well-established company based in Plymouth, Devon, South West England.

In this role you will design aspects addressing all interior and exterior furniture, fixtures and fittings, including coverings and integration for engineering systems e.g. air conditioning, fridges and BBQ’s for luxury yachts.

Working as the Surfacing / CAD Designeryou willwork in the design department, surface modelling furniture for interior and exterior spaces.

As the Surfacing / CAD Designeryou will use your critical thinking, good technical and or creative ability to solve problems. You will have an understanding of weight, waste and a basic to good understanding of design for manufacture of glass fibre parts.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Surfacing / CAD Designerwill include:

  • Work to the annual objectives of the design department
  • Design furniture for all areas of the yachts. (E.g., Exterior seating, bars and interior helms etc)
  • Create intelligent designs that maximize space, storage and integrate services seamlessly
  • Produce 3D prelim ideation models of furniture and details to present to the project leads
  • Review, modify and finalise designs into a solved 3D Design model that meets all standards
  • Produce productions drawings (E.g. Assembly drawings, glazing drawings)
  • Design spaces & furniture that suit the creative direction briefed by the concept/creative team & fit with the brand
  • Designs must meet the project brief, project specification and customer options form
  • Support the yachts into production, through change management and value engineering
  • Working collaboratively with Engineering, Tooling, CAD and Naval Architecture departments
  • Involvement in the NPI and NPD process
  • Assist with research and development projects
  • Support of the Development department’s other design disciplines when required
  • Company Systems: Basic Chess, Change notes, Radar, ADP
  • Adherence to standards (Brief/Spec/Order Form/Lineout/ CPC/DS)

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

  • Experience of designing parts for moulding
  • NX 2D & 3D CAD skills: Intermediate
  • Ability to create surfaces suitable for 5-axis cutting
  • Good knowledge of: Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, Smartsheet, PowerPoint
  • Some knowledge of Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator
  • Exterior furniture design: Intermediate
  • Design for manufacture knowledge (Mouldings/GRP)
  • Good design communication
  • Basic knowledge of mechanism design
  • Understanding of budgets and manufacturing feasibility
  • Ability to work under own initiative most of the time
  • Good communication and presentation skills
