Role: 1:1 Teaching Assistant
Location: Plymouth
Contract: Full time, Permanent
Working hours: Monday-Friday, 08:30 - 15:20 (term time only)
Salary: £14.45 - £15.20 per hour
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for a 1:1 teaching assistant to make a genuine impact by supporting pupils who face challenges in thriving within mainstream education or special schools.
About the school:
The school serves as a teaching base for pupils aged 11 - 16 who have been excluded from school or are at risk of exclusion. Students follow a secondary-style curriculum with a strong focus on the core subjects, complemented by alternative learning opportunities. These include hands-on experiences such as learning outside the classroom and vocational, work-based training programs.
About the role:
As a 1:1 teaching assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students on a one-to-one basis, helping them access education and participate in a variety of activities both inside and outside of the classroom. The role is diverse, engaging, and highly rewarding.

You will support the students with both their academic studies and social, emotional development

You will help the students engage in their personalised timetables, which will involve taking them offsite to engage in an outreach program. This could include visits to a local farm, sports centre or museum

Promote the safeguarding of all children, ensuring they feel safe and well supported

Manage behaviour effectively and meet students needs in line with their EHCP’s
About you:
We welcome applications from individuals with relevant experience. You could be an experienced teaching assistant or worked as a support worker for individuals with additional needs. You may be a talented sports coach with an abundance of enthusiasm for supporting young people. Whatever your background, the non-negotiable is that you have a real passion for working with young people with additional needs!
