Summary:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer is responsible for managing the delivery of mechanical engineering work packages to the required scope, quality, schedule, and cost. This role involves overseeing technical aspects from the identification of the need through to handover. The position operates as part of the Strategic Infrastructure Business Unit and reports to the Principal Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager. Responsibilities include leading technical design packages, ensuring design documentation meets project standards, planning for effective project implementation, maintaining quality management arrangements, and overseeing risk assessments.

Leading and managing technical design packages, including setting project objectives and managing designer performance.
Ensuring design documentation meets project requirements and standards.
Planning and implementing effective project strategies and technical planning.
Ensuring compliance with quality management and maintaining appropriate records.
Communicating and managing risks associated with project activities.
Skills:
Chartered Engineer status or working towards chartership.
Experience in managing complex design development.
Experience in producing and checking engineering reports and documents.
Knowledge of mechanical and nuclear process systems.
Understanding of engineering design and safety practices.
Project management and budgeting experience.
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders.
Experience with multi-disciplinary project teams.
Sound understanding of health and safety standards.
Ability to guide and mentor junior engineers.
Software/Tools:
Engineering office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, OneNote)
Design and modelling software (e.g., Inventor, Vault, Navisworks, MathCAD, Revit)
Certifications & Standards:
Engineering degree in a relevant discipline.
Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
Nuclear Introductory Course or equivalent knowledge.
Compliance with relevant national regulations and legislation (e.g., BS8888 for drawings).
