Experienced & Qualified Payroll Specialist required for well established Manufacturing company based in Plymouth. Reporting to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the entire payroll process for the company with approximately 360 staff based on site, also ensuring compliance with all UK tax regulations. Due to the scale of this role it is imperative that successful candidate has a deep understanding of payroll systems coupled with the ability to handle sensitive / confidential information with the highest of discretion. This is an ongoing temporary position with the potential of becoming permanent for a candidate who can demonstrate all of the core competencies required.

Key Responsibilities:

Accurately prepare and process monthly payroll for all employees, including salaried & hourly.

Ensure accurate calculation of wages, overtime, shift allowances, bonuses, deductions, and tax are applied.

Review and verify timekeeping records and resolve any discrepancies with department heads or employees.

Handle payroll adjustments and retroactive payments as needed.

Auto enrolment/pensions.

Assisting with BACS transmissions.

Some awareness of FPS/EPS ideally.

P11D, P45's/P46's/P60's.

SMP/SSP & other statutory payments.

PSA calculations & return.

HMRC liaison via email and telephone.

Generate and distribute payroll reports for management, finance, and auditing purposes.

Serve as the main point of contact for the site regarding payroll-related queries, resolving issues promptly and efficiently.

Assist with year-end payroll processes, including reconciliations and tax documentation.

Manage and update the payroll system, ensuring accuracy and functionality.

Troubleshoot payroll system issues and work with IT or the system provider to resolve.

Implement and manage electronic timekeeping systems, ensuring accurate data capture.

Work closely with the People Team to ensure accurate processing of employee status changes (e.g., new hires, terminations, promotions).

Essential Qualifications, Knowledge & Candidate Attributes Required:

Recognised qualification such as CIPP / AAT or Equivalent.

Experience of running payroll for large volumes of staff (i.e. 200 people or more) coupled with the exposure to complex payroll runs & shift payments, preferably within an engineering or technical services company.

Experience with payroll software (SAP would be highly beneficial) coupled with good proficiency in Excel.

Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent organisational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
