We are currently recruiting for a Sen Mediation and Tribunal Officer with a Southwest Local Authority.Location: Southwest

Set-up: Potential remote

Rate: £31 per hour via umbrella, inside IR35  (flexible depending on candidate)Duration: Initial 3-month contractHours: Full-time position

Purpose of role

  • To design, implement and manage the processes of mediation and tribunal involved in the statutory processes of assessing additional educational needs for children and young people aged 0-25
  • Undertake the preparation and assessment, research, and networking tasks associated with developing and managing the implementation of the systems supporting this across the local authority
  • This will assist in enabling Authority to meet their statutory duty in nationally prescribed guidelines and enable children and young people, and their families, to access a fair and transparent appeal system in the decision-making process surrounding their child’s additional needs

Responsibilities

  • To manage, arrange and prepare work relating to mediation when this becomes a statutory requirement where parents of or a young person intend to appeal to the SEN & Disability Tribunal (SENDIST)
  • To ensure the Authority meets its statutory duties under the Education Act 1996, and the DfE SEN(Special Educational Needs)Code of Practice and subsequent amendments to this legislation through development of a specialised service that covers: i. Mediation ii. Tribunals
  • To ensure that agreements reached through mediation are implemented within required timescales
  • Undertake the preparation and assessment, research, and networking tasks associated with developing and managing the implementation of systems

Requirements

  • Extensive experience and a thorough and in-depth knowledge of procedures in1996 Education Act, SEN Code of Practice, Children’s Act, Equality Act
  • Extensive experience of SEN Tribunal processes and proven ability to achieve good outcomes for children and the Local Authority
  • Extensive experience and a thorough and in-depth knowledge procedures in a local authority
