We are currently supporting a school where every pupilhas an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP). This describes their Special Education Needs (SEN) and the help they will get to meet them. An EHCP also includes any health and care provision that is needed. The Personal Care Assistants are essential in providing the right care and support which is crucial for pupils wellbeing.

This is a challenging job that can lead to future roles in a variety of sectors. Some Personal Care Assistants go on to work in mainstream schools, the NHS or the care sector, many stay with the school and achieve successful promotion if they have the right qualifications.

Accountabilities

You will:

Provide personal care;

Administer medication, where appropriate;

Employ effective communication using different skills including sign language/communication aids (training given);

Manual handling of pupils in and out of chairs/walkers;

Postural changes, for example, moving pupils into standing frames or on Acheeva beds;

Assist in feeding pupils, using specialist equipment, possibly on a 1-1 basis (training given);

Encourage children to eat their meals and promote appropriate table manners and behaviour;

Ensure the safety, welfare and appropriate conduct of pupils during the midday break period in accordance with the practices and procedures of the school;

Ensure the health, safety, conduct and well-being of all pupils;

Undertake playground duty, supervising by circulating amongst children;

Ensure the dining area is kept clean and in a hygienic condition;

Assist in the demonstrating duties to new members of staff;

Ensure playground equipment is used and stored correctly;

Be responsible for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of the children;

Undertake other duties appropriate to the grade of the post.


Hours:

Monday to Thursday 10:30am - 2:15pm (£60 a day)

Friday 10:30am - 1:15pm (£45 a day)
