Experienced Maintenance Engineer required for global manufacturing company at their site based in Plymouth. Reporting to the Maintenance Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for both reactive and planned, preventative maintenance and first-fix repairs on complex, manufacturing machinery. This will be a varied role where you will ensure that all tasks are completed on time and to the highest of standards, communicating with supervisors and managers alike, providing them with feedback to foster an environment of Continuous Improvement. Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out reactive and planned preventative maintenance on equipment ranging from injection moulding machines, extrusion machinery, laser printing and automated production lines (80% of time spent on reactive / planned maintenance, 20% of time spent focused on Continuous Improvement).
  • Planning and delivering corrective and reactive work, ensuring that tools, parts and materials are available and production downtime is minimised.
  • Attend breakdowns to factory equipment, site services and facilities ensuring that permanent fix is made to standard. Communicate action plan’s to resolve issues to the Maintenance Reliability Team Leader and Production Team Leaders.
  • Completing the Planned Maintenance activities as defined by the site maintenance plan to schedule and within specified time frame. Develop maintenance tasks by analysing asset history, RCM, documenting component details and task method.
  • Ensure a dynamic health and safety risk assessment is undertaken prior to commencing any task. When risks have been highlighted sufficient controls must be put in place. Considerations must be taken for the safety of others, including all staff, visitors and contractors. Use the Permit to Work system to control and document risks where necessary.
  • To uphold and exceed standards of safety ensuring all work areas are kept tidy by adopting a “clean as you go” approach at all times. Actively seek to improve work areas by applying 5S principles.
  • Effective use of the CMMS (Pirana) to record all defects identified corrective actions, fault codes and parts used. All records to be completed to standard to ensure information can be further utilised.
  • Contribute to problem solving workshops, providing automation expertise to identify root causes of failures and the subsequent improvement actions.
  • Ensuring all work performed is in compliance with all aspects of the Health & Safety at Work Legislation and the Company Health & Safety Policy.
  • Maintain and apply a level of technical expertise across the site, sufficient to act as a point of reference for team members & colleagues, to resolve complex problems of repair/fix and give technical direction.
  • Liaise and communicate with Reliability Team leader and Production Team Leaders/Sections through informal & formal meetings to keep them informed of progress, to resolve issues and ensure that efficient running of the factory is maintained.
  • To support the introduction of new machinery from specification to Company standards through to FAT and the creation of PPMs.

Essential Experience, Qualifications and Candidate Attributes Required:

  • A recognised Engineering Apprenticeship (NVQ Level 3), HNC, HND, ONC or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven, Recent, experience working as a Maintenance Engineer within Manufacturing.
  • Mechanical and / or Electrical fault finding experience.
  • Strong problem solving abilities coupled with the ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills coupled with the ability to work well as part of a team along with the ability to work under own initiative during unsupervised periods.  
  • Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Excellent awareness of Health & Safety Regulations
  • Full driving licence.

The successful candidate will be required to work a weekly rotating shift comprising of Monday to Friday 06:00 to 14:00 and 13:45 to 22:00. There may be a period of training on static day shift prior to moving to rotating shift, however this will be confirmed at interview stage.
