About the Role:
Reporting to the Production Engineering Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for optimising specific process operations across all product programs. You will ensure a consistent and best-practice approach to process engineering, driving efficiency, innovation, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, ensuring a seamless transition into production, including SAP new parts, major NPI projects, routing creation, master data maintenance, and tooling BOMs.
- Develop and optimise machine tool programs, process parameters (e.g., hardening processes), fixture design, procurement, and validation.
- Specify, install, and commission capital equipment in line with business requirements, preparing CEA documentation including scope, cost, justification, and payback period.
- Work closely with production teams to solve problems using Six Sigma, Lean, SPC tools, and Core Tools, supporting production targets.
- Continuously improve process performance, equipment efficiency, and production procedures.
- Define and maintain process documentation such as SOPs, PFMEAs, Process Flows, Control Plans, Specification Sheets, and Tool Cards.
- Participate in customer complaint investigations, implementing corrective actions through 8D problem-solving.
- Manage and document process changes via Engineering Change Notes, Engineering Trials, Manufacturing Change Notes, and Concession/Permit procedures.
- Use data-driven insights to improve cost efficiency, capacity, cycle times, and defect rates.
- Identify equipment risks and implement critical spare strategies to minimise downtime.
- Define measurement techniques to demonstrate and improve process capability.
- Ensure Statistical Process Control (SPC) is effectively used to monitor key product and process characteristics.
- Lead and inspire teams, motivating staff to achieve business objectives.
Shift Pattern:
- Weekly alternating shift pattern:
- Monday to Friday 06:00 - 14:00
- Monday to Friday 14:00 - 22:00
Essential Qualifications, Experience & Attributes:
- HNC or higher qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, plus a time-served apprenticeship.
- Proven experience as a Production Engineer, Process Engineer, or Manufacturing Engineer in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong background in Six Sigma principles, continuous improvement, and NPI projects.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and basic ERP systems.
Desirable Experience (Non-Essential):
- CNC Programming
- Core Tools Certification (APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, Measurement System Analysis).
