The Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experienced Mechanical Process Design Engineer to join a leading Nuclear Defence company based at Devonport Dockyard.

Job responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the design and development of mechanical services and process systems.
  • Ensure all designs comply with safety regulations, standards, and client requirements.
  • Perform hydraulic and pressure calculations for system designs.
  • Lead hazard identification and analysis efforts (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP) related to process systems.
  • Manage a team of 5+ direct reports, overseeing their technical output and professional development.
  • Oversee the programme and design output of a work package, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.
  • Provide technical leadership to support the successful delivery of complex projects.

Essential Qualifications and Experience:

  • Experience designing mechanical services/process systems.
  • Experience working in a highly regulated industry, with a strong preference for nuclear.
  • Deep understanding of hydraulic and pressure calculations.
  • Expertise in hazard identification and analysis (e.g., HAZID, HAZOP).
  • BEng/BSc in Mechanical Engineering or a similar discipline.
  • Proven line management experience, managing 5+ direct reports.
  • Demonstrated responsibility for the programme and design output of a work package.
  • Chartered Engineer status.

Highly Desirable:

  • Master's level education in a relevant field.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of IEC 61511 (Functional Safety).
