Are you a motivated and talented structural or mechanical engineer from a steelwork background, looking for a role in the Plymouth area with above market rate rewards?Years of experience are not a major factor but more the ability to work autonomously. This business is an independent local success story which provides engineering packages, consultancy and practical on-site support for major projects across the Southwest. Their projects are wide ranging and include the deign development of nuclear and healthcare facilities. This role is not limited to design and also involves the assessment of their operational and design basis failures / faulted conditions. In terms of design you can expect to be working on various steel structures for major local infrastructure projects. The successful engineers will be required to work closely with a team of engineers to produce design packages from concept through to on-site installation and commissioning.  This will quickly further the engineers’ knowledge and experience of the broader aspects of working in heavily regulated sectors.Where applicable, engineers will have the opportunity to train and qualify, depending on their potential for further qualifications, with professional development towards Chartered Engineer Status if not already achieved.We are looking for people with the following attributes:
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent (based on ability and experience);
  • Broad engineering knowledge and understanding of design processes
  • Ability to learn new skills and techniques;
  • Excellent written communication skills;
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, confident and able to work unsupervised;
  • Good interpersonal skills;
  • Able to manage own time and work load;
  • Willing to work in an office and to travel where projects require;
  • Willing to undertake training and professional development.
A knowledge of the following would also be useful:
  • Knowledge of steel design codes
  • Use of 2D and 3D CAD software such as AutoDesk AutoCAD, Inventor, relevant engineering software such as MathCAD/Hevacomp/STAAD/A3D Max and MS Word/Excel
  • Properties of engineering materials such as carbon and stainless steels and aluminium;
  • Design appreciation of civil / steelwork structures
  • Design of mechanisms to be able to integrate bearings / gearboxes / drives.
  • Experience of installation and commissioning plant.
