JOB OVERVIEW

We have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Senior Payroll Officer / Specialist with previous experience processing end-to-end payroll with good knowledge of compensation and benefits, as well as HR systems.

Working as the Senior Payroll Officer / Specialist you will be responsible for delivering the company’s payroll and associated benefits. Their payroll consists of approximately 2500 weekly and salaried paid employees.

As the Senior Payroll Officer / Specialist you will also manage pension contributions, manage all aspects of payroll reporting, manage payroll processes and assist in driving efficiency within the department. Support the payroll team with processing both payrolls.

The role sits within the wider PTC (People, Talent & Culture) team who deliver all of the people processes across the company including, payroll, recruitment, wellbeing, all ER matters, apprenticeships, technical training, learning and development, performance and talent management.

The Payroll Specialists are a dedicated, accessible and knowledgeable team, providing a hub for routine pay, pension and benefits related policy and process matters, having a thorough knowledge of the Compensation & Benefits areas of responsibility, they focus on delivery to both their colleagues and the wider workforce.

DUTIES

Your duties as a Senior Payroll Officer / Specialist will include:

  • Maintenance of employee records on the Payroll / HR system
  • Carry out calculations of the payroll and answer any employee queries
  • Ensure correct and accurate processing of payroll data
  • Process starters and leavers data
  • Completion of statutory and legal forms
  • Manage the payroll weekly and monthly reporting obligations
  • Liaise with solicitors regarding wage details of employees involved in accidents
  • Deal with HMRC, PCC, CCC, CSA, Plymouth Courts, Unions, temp agencies and other external sources
  • Assist with annual audit and statutory reporting
  • Crystal Reports management
  • Manage payroll benefit-in-kind set up, including managing the healthcare scheme, and life assurance policy
  • Manage monthly employee benefits and salary sacrifice schemes
  • Manage reports required in relation to pension obligations
  • Review departments procedures and processes and lead the way with implementing improvements
  • Manage payroll projects including reporting

  • Strong interpersonal skills; accuracy, communication, effective time management and analytical skills are essential
  • High standard of IT skills and competent use of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

  • Confident and enthusiastic
  • Efficient approach to task management
  • Project and change management skills desirable
  • Payroll qualification desirable
  • Manufacturing payroll experience desirable
