Your new roleThe role holder will be responsible for a proactive business partner approach; providing technical expertise to shape and influence decisions with senior stakeholders. The role holder will lead the development and implementation of complex supply chain strategies, transforming organisation spend with third parties across high profile categories to deliver ongoing value for money from company expenditure. The role holder will have responsibility for driving out sustainable savings and progressing the sustainability agenda. The role will have a focus on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics category.

  • Visible and trusted category lead for relevant areas of expenditure who develops strong relationships (internally and externally).
  • Responsible for providing a proactive procurement approach, providing direction and expert advice on procurement and supplier management matters in the areas of responsibility.
  • Agreeing priorities with stakeholders, ensuring resources are planned and commercial and financial risks in the supply chain are identified and suitably mitigated.
  • Develop, motivate and coach direct reports including setting and monitoring performance objectives, identifying training requirements and mentoring.
  • Deputise for Head of Procurement as required.
  • Establish, plan and implement 'end to end' category strategies using expert knowledge, research, data and market insights to determine priorities and inform decision-making to ensure security of supply, financial savings and sustainability from supply chain.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Completes large and complex procurement initiatives on time and within budget by undertaking activity across all stages of the Procurement Life Cycle.
  • Desirable to have a public sector background and sound working knowledge of the sector.
  • Demonstrable understanding of Public Procurement legislation, negotiation and implementation of purchase contracts and supply agreements.
  • Ideally, CIPS/ MCIPS or working towards but this is not essential.
  • Must be able to get to Plymouth 2 times a week.
  • Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint and databases.
