Purchasing Assistant

My client in Plymouth is looking for a purchasing assistant to join their fast paced team.

As a Purchasing Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the project managers by ensuring timely delivery of stock to customer sites. This position requires confidence in negotiations and the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of suppliers to secure the best prices on fire safety products. Comprehensive training on product knowledge will be provided.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Liaise with suppliers and internal departments to streamline procurement processes.
  • Conduct negotiations with suppliers to achieve cost-effective deals.
  • Perform supplier reviews and maintain strong supplier relationships.
  • Manage purchasing for specific projects within set budgets based on the bill of quantities.
  • Handle reactive purchasing based on on-site requisitions.
  • Ensure strict adherence to deadlines for the delivery of goods to sites.
  • Resolve account queries and ordering issues promptly.
  • Undertake one-off procurement exercises for bespoke projects.
  • Conduct annual tender exercises per spend category to ensure competitive pricing.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience in buying/procurement is a desirable but not mandatory.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Proficient in data entry and management.
