This is a great time to join our leadership team in Plymouth to make a difference to the lives of vulnerable children. Our ILACS earlier this year confirmed that we are on the right tracks and under the leadership of our permanent Director of Children’s Services, David Haley, and our permanent Service Director for Children, Young People and Families Temilola Salimon, we now have an ambitious plan in place to further improve outcomes for all children, young people and families across Plymouth working as ‘One Children’s Service’ across our children’s social care and education services.

In Plymouth we work restoratively with children, young people and families by being trauma informed and strengths based, building relationships to understand lived experiences and provide the right support at the right time to enable long term positive change.

Our Children's Social Work Service provides support to children, young people and families where an assessment has identified that children are ‘in need’ (CIN), including children subject to child protection plans (CPPs), and children newly in care where the permanence plan is being agreed. This includes children and young people subject to the Public Law Outline (PLO) and our Children’s Disability Team.

We are looking for a Service Manager with expert knowledge in these areas, to provide effective management oversight and support to teams to ensure high quality assessment and direct work with children and families and improving outcomes for children and young people. You will be a passionate and experienced senior manager who is confident in what ‘good’ looks like and in demonstrating the behaviours that will support the service to improve further and deliver outstanding outcomes to vulnerable children and families.

We are making good progress. Partnership approaches are strong and a comprehensive workforce development offer from our Academy is supporting practice to improve further and supporting our workforce to progress their careers with Plymouth.

You will be working closely with the Head of Service, Danielle Tweedie, and the wider leadership team to make sure families get the right help at the right time and high quality and effective social care interventions every time. You will be committed to ensuring the voice of children and young people is at the heart of everything you do.

What’s in it for you?

Key to our improvement is investing in our workforce and you will be joining a leadership team who are committed to bringing our ‘High Expectations, High Support, High Challenge’ culture into reality with access to a comprehensive leadership development programme and a supportive team culture.

Plymouth is a great place to live and work and we offer access to a generous relocation package to enable you to benefit from a great quality of life in the fabulous south-west region. We offer flexible working hours and hybrid working with a modern office base and all of our Children’s Services teams on one site in the heart of Plymouth with the best sea views going!
