Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualised education plans (IEPs) for Key Stage 1 students with learning disabilities and complex needs.
  • Adapt teaching methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of young students, with a focus on SEN (Special Educational Needs) and SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) support.
  • Collaborate with other educators, specialists, and parents to support student development.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Provide a safe and nurturing classroom environment that promotes student engagement and learning.
  • Utilise assistive technology and other resources to enhance learning experiences.
  • Conduct regular assessments and maintain accurate records of student performance.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with Key Stage 1 students with learning disabilities and complex needs.
  • Strong understanding of various learning disabilities and effective teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with young students with special needs.
  • Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations related to special education.
  • Understanding that behaviour is communication and being trauma-informed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with assistive technology and adaptive learning tools.
  • Training in behaviour management and intervention strategies.
  • Experience in Pathway 2 classes.
  • An engaging, positive, cheerful, and composed demeanour.
