Brook Street Social Care are now recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work with our client in Pontefract.
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with additional learning needs in educational settings. Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing tailored support for individual pupils or groups of pupils with special educational needs, assisting with their learning activities and ensuring appropriate supervision and care.
- Maintaining high-quality records of the support provided in line with identified needs and support strategies.
- Facilitating the integration of pupils into mainstream education when applicable.
- Assisting with the personal needs of pupils, including social, health, hygiene, first aid, and welfare matters (e.g., toilet training, feeding, positioning).
- Carrying out medical procedures such as administering medication and undertaking specialised feeding programs (training will be provided).
- Preparing the classroom for lessons and ensuring it is cleared afterwards.
- Assisting in displaying student work effectively within the classroom.
- Reporting any pupil issues or behavioural challenges to the teacher or line manager in accordance with school policy.
- Monitoring and reporting on pupil progress and achievements to the teacher or line manager.
- Contributing to individual behaviour and education plans as directed by the teacher or line manager.
- Gathering routine information from parents/carers under the direction of the teacher or line manager.
- Providing general support with learning activities (e.g., literacy, numeracy) to help pupils understand instructions and stay focused on tasks.
- Assisting in maintaining classroom equipment and resources.
- Helping pupils utilise resources such as ICT effectively.
- Supervising pupils outside of lesson times, including before and after school and during lunchtimes.
- Participating in school visits and assisting with related activities as required.
- Undertaking routine clerical duties such as photocopying and collecting dinner money.
Competencies and Skills Required:
- Strong ability to relate well to children with special educational needs.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with adults and work as part of a team.
Qualifications/Training:
Essential:
- Qualified or willing to work towards Support Work in Schools (S.W.I.S.) Level 2.
- Level 2 Numeracy/Literacy or willingness to work towards this.
Desirable:
- Supporting Pupils with S.E.N. Level 2 or 3.
- Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools Level 3.
