Make a Difference: SEN Teaching Assistant role in Wakefield

Join a dedicated team making a real impact on the lives of young people! We're seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic SEN Teaching Assistants to join our Specialist Resource Hub, managed by Wakefield Council. You'll provide vital support to students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) within a mainstream Secondary school, helping them to thrive in a structured and supportive environment.

We're Looking For Individuals Who:

  • Have a genuine passion for supporting students with additional needs, especially Autism.
  • Possess an understanding of how to effectively support children with SEN and SEMH.
  • Are adaptable, take initiative, and demonstrate patience.
  • Approach their work with a nurturing and supportive attitude.
  • Can collaborate effectively within a team setting.
  • Bring valuable experience from Education, Care, Social Work, Psychology, or Drama (transferable skills are highly valued!).

Experience is NOT Essential - Personality Matters More!

You don’t need prior experience in education or working with SEMH & ASD - what we’re really looking for is someone who:

  • Has a caring, patient, and understanding nature
  • Is open to learning about SEMH & ASD and how to support students effectively
  • Can build strong relationships and gain students' trust
  • Is adaptable, flexible, and has a good sense of humour
  • You must have Maths & English to the equivalent of C at GCSE

About the Role:

As an LSA, you will:

  • Work 1:2 with two assigned pupils, providing tailored support
  • Assist in small groups of 4-6 students, creating a structured and engaging learning environment
  • Help students with SEMH & ASD navigate both mainstream classrooms and resource hub sessions
  • Work closely with the Teacher in Charge and fellow LSAs to implement individual learning plans
  • Play a key role in fostering a positive, inclusive atmosphere where every student feels valued
