Bennett and Game are currently working with a specialist contractor based in South Wales, who are seeking an Inspection Manager to join their team. Our client is a versatile civil and marine engineering services contractor, specializing in delivering customised solutions for the modern engineering landscape. With a broad array of equipment and outstanding expertise, they provide innovative and unique approaches to any water-based challenge.

As the Inspection Manager, you will be responsible for leading and mentoring the inspection teams, while also working closely with the Operations Director to support the business's growth and development. The role will require you to be on-site conducting quotations and site visits, where you will liaise with clients. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious candidate looking to advance their career.

Overview:

  • Managing a team of structural inspectors and surveyors to effectively plan resources and meet or exceed project deadlines and budgets.
  • Maintaining close liaison with clients throughout all phases of projects.
  • Preparing cost proposals and tenders.
  • Preparing key documentation.
  • Inspecting a variety of structures, including culverts, bridges, and retaining walls.
  • Leading and advising inspection teams.
  • Appointing and managing specialist sub-contractors.
  • Preparing and reviewing written reports, BCI pro-formas, CAD drawings, and schedules of defects.
  • Undertaking complex, one-off projects.

Requirements:

  • Degree-educated (preferably in Civil or Structural Engineering, although other relevant or transferable degrees will be considered).
  • Chartered Engineer status, or actively working towards it (ongoing support will be provided).
  • Broad experience in planning and conducting detailed structural inspections (ideally of bridges, culverts, and retaining walls) and investigations.
  • Excellent organisational skills.
  • Thorough, conscientious, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Professional and confident communication skills.
  • Ability to speak and write in clear and concise English.
  • Proficient in using IT, especially MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Ability to use AutoCAD.
  • Ability to work as part of a team, supporting others and providing direction.
  • Ability to produce well-written, professional inspection reports.
  • Sound technical understanding of construction materials and forms, as well as their common associated defects.
  • Willing and able to work outdoors, including in waterways and confined spaces.
  • Comfortable working within confined spaces.
  • Competent swimmer.
  • Full UK driver's licence.
  • Willingness to travel for work and stay away from home occasionally.
