Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop high-quality mechanical designs and relevant documentation in accordance with design and quality standards.
  • Work with the Engineering team to continually improve processes and implement changes from lessons learned.
  • Maintain the Engineering review process focusing on design objectives, including ease of manufacture and assembly, product lifecycle maintenance, safety, and warranty.
  • Interpret technical requirements and produce drawings, models, Bills of Material, and engineering reports.
  • Follow product lifecycles from compliance to customer or market requirements through to final design review and certification.
  • Ensure designs comply with design control procedures, local and international regulations, and military standards.
  • Liaise with customers, suppliers, and subcontractors to establish technical requirements or provide technical support.
  • Take ownership of continual professional development and highlight key opportunities for development within the business.


Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience in mechanical design within the industry.
  • Expertise in using CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
  • Knowledge of basic electrical and wiring layout.
  • Competence in material selection and analysis specific to operating environments.
  • Experience with thermal analysis.
  • Understanding of motion control systems including motors, gearboxes, and controllers.
  • Familiarity with military environmental test standards.
  • Experience with design for manufacture and production processes.
  • Ability to conduct MTBF calculations and mechanical troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of CE/UKCA marking and Technical Construction File (TCF) generation.
