If so, GSL education are currently looking for a Horticultural Teaching assistant to join a local school based in Poole who would like you to be part of a unique educational setting that focuses on vocational skills to help young people transition from education to employment.
About the School:
The school is an education setting based for 16 – 25+ years old with Special Educational Needs. It is based on 350 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside. The school operate enterprise activities and vocational teaching methods to bridge the gap between education and employment for young people and adults with SEN in Dorset and the local area. The school focuses on vocations like horticulture, agriculture, equine skills and animal care as well as many more, to enrich the lives and education of its pupils.Â
About the Role:
As a Horticultural Teaching Assistant, you'll support students in developing practical horticultural skills through hands-on activities in gardening, landscaping, plant care, and sustainability. You'll also assist with their personal development and prepare them for future careers in the horticultural industry.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the delivery of horticultural activities, working alongside teaching staff to provide engaging and practical lessons.
- Support students with SEN to develop their skills in gardening, plant care, landscaping, and related horticultural tasks.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive environment that promotes personal growth and self-confidence.
- Encourage teamwork and communication among students, helping them to build practical skills and work towards their individual goals.
- Monitor and track student progress, providing feedback and guidance where needed.
- Promote safety in all outdoor activities and ensure that health and safety protocols are followed.
Requirements:
- A passion for horticulture and outdoor education, with an interest in teaching young people.
- Experience working with young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN), either in an educational or care setting.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt your approach to meet the individual needs of students.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- A patient and compassionate approach to working with students.
- Previous experience in horticulture or a related field would be an advantage, but not essential.
