The client designs and manufactures naval defence hardware which is exported to over 50 countries.You willbe working for an established business with a strong order book and positivelong-termforecast.

They manufacture a wide range of instruments and systems for the defence and civil markets worldwide. These products are in use in over 50 countries worldwide, often destined for continuous and critical use in harsh environments such as at sea, in the battlefield or at busy airport runways, where reliable operation is essential

Job Purpose:

  • Undertake the lead technical role in the development of electronic/electrical hardware, system design, post design support and product documentation in accordance with development lifecycle process.
  • To undertake electrical systems engineering and the production of project documentation for customer delivery projects, acting as the prime technical point of contact for the customer.

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  • To design and develop digital electronic instrumentation for challenging environmental conditions within Naval, Marine, Aviation or general Defence applications.
  • To be responsible for the product lifecycle of development opportunities from compliance to customer or market requirements through to final design review and certification within the given targets of timescale, cost and scope.
  • To ensure technology is designed in accordance with design control procedures, local and international regulations and directives, harmonized and/or military standards and above all safe with minimal environmental impact.
  • To manage all technical deliverables for assigned customer delivery projects reporting to the project manager or engineering team lead.
  • Be customer centric, ensuring every decision made adds real value for our direct customers and end users.
  • To liaise in a professional manner with customers, suppliers and sub-contractors when necessary to establish technical requirements or provide technical support.
  • Act as the design authority for designated products owning all aspects of CE, UKCA & MED compliance and produce the necessary documentation to support these activities, where applicable. Undertake root cause analysis and countermeasures activities to implement robust solutions to in service non-conformities.

General Responsibilities:

  • To prepare technical documentation in accordance with procedures, contract requirements and local and international legislation.
  • To maintain a solid awareness of current and advancing technological developments within the industry.
  • To work within multi-disciplined project teams internally and our customer base in connection with the above duties and responsibilities.
  • Willing to travel nationally and internationally to provide occasional support for customer meetings, qualification testing, system functional testing etc.
  • To represent the company when meeting customers and suppliers in a presentable, informed and courteous manner whilst projecting the core values.
  • To work additional hours occasionally to meet specific project deadlines.
  • Undertake other tasks as identified by the business, which are generally in line with the interests and overall development of the Company as a whole.
  • Ensure the safety of products were designated as design authority, including all aspects of CE, UKCA & MED compliance.

Knowledge & Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience of electrical and electronic systems and product design.
  • Experience of using microcontrollers such as PIC.
  • Familiar with RS422, RS232, Ethernet and LVDS.

JOB PROFILE:

  • Knowledge and application of product safety and compliance.
  • Knowledge and application of product development lifecycle management.
  • Solid understanding of root cause and countermeasures (RCCM) techniques.
  • Solid understanding and demonstrable experience of risk mitigation and ALARP.
  • Solid understanding and demonstrable experience of undertaking design, safety and process FMEA.
  • Knowledge and experience of using Electrical and PCB CAD software. (SolidWorks or Altium preferred) along with Product Data Management systems.
  • Experience of compiling and delivering Contract Data Requirements Lists.
  • Knowledge of Defence/Naval environmental standards advantageous, but not essential.

Education & Qualifications:

  • Electrical or Electronics Engineering Degree.
  • CEng or working towards.
