We are seeking a talented, dynamic, and passionate Buyer for an established Engineering company based in Poole.

Reporting to the Purchasing and Supply Manager, you will play a crucial role in delivering a first-class procurement service, developing and maintaining strong relationships with vendors and distributors, and ensuring a seamless procurement process.

The company is undergoing a major expansion due to winning new orders so is an exciting time to join the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Source quality materials and components.
  • Negotiate terms with new and existing suppliers.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with vendors, including visits.
  • Liaise between suppliers, internal departments, and customers.
  • Collaborate with sales, operations, and customer service teams.
  • Ensure timely and cost-effective purchasing decisions.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and potential new suppliers.
  • Assist in logistics for new product development, inventory maintenance, shipment, delivery, and returns.
  • Maximise stock availability while minimising stock levels in line with lean principles.
  • Manage slow-moving stock.
  • Maintain accurate purchase data (price, lead time, minimum stock, etc.)
  • Research and determine the best vendors for various projects.
  • Ensure necessary supplier contracts/framework agreements are in place and maintained.
  • Coordinate engineering changes, product line extensions, or new product launches.
  • Negotiate and agree on prices and terms with suppliers, vendors, or freight forwarders.
  • Forecast price trends.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Relevant CIPS qualification is desirable.

Essential Skills:

  • Previous experience in a Buying / Purchasing role, preferably within an engineering manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrable experience negotiating and communicating with suppliers.
  • Hands-on experience with software such as SAP, MRP/ERP and Microsoft Office suites.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data for informed procurement decisions.
  • Experience driving cost savings and process improvements through effective procurement strategies.
