Acorn by Synergie is currently recruiting on behalf of our client, a specialist contractor that operate throughout South Wales and South West England. They undertake contracts for a range of clients including local authorities, major contracting groups, universities, colleges, individual sports clubs, and private clients.

These roles are initially long term temporary but will go permanent for the right candidates.

About the Role:

As a Working Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in delivering sports turf renovation projects for a wide range of clients. From community sports clubs to elite facilities, you will help maintain and elevate the standards of natural sports surfaces across the region whilst supervising a small team.

Key Responsibilities:

Site Supervisor Role Below is a list of tasks which is expected to be covered by Site Supervisors. These are to be used as guidance and should be carried out as standard but not limited to.

  • Ensure all persons on site are inducted, read and signed RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements). If not, then carry out induction
  • Check that site file contains latest RAMS according to site activities and if an activity has been added to a job that the relevant RAM is included for this, been understood and signed. For example, if a kerb line, fence line, manhole or drainage has been added to a job when it wasn't originally included then new RAMS must be included. Communicate to Contracts Manager the requirement for this.
  • Ensure RAMS are followed by all site persons
  • Check all PPE is provided to site persons and is being used when required. Report if something is missing or needed
  • Check all setting out and works is correct to either latest drawings or verbal instructions from Contracts managers or engineer
  • Ensure all site operatives are working in an effective, efficient and safe manner and tasks are delegated to people with the abilities/qualifications to carry out that task
  • Communicate any difficulties or changes to Contracts Managers.
  • Check fuel tanks daily and phone through to order more fuel in advance to give time to order
  • Check materials are correct, and quantities are working out correctly. This needs to be monitored constantly. Phone through for more/less material or if there is an issue with material
  • Check machine operatives have carried out daily checks on machines and are qualified to operate machine
  • Report any damages immediately to Contract Manager and fill in report if necessary
  • Report any injuries or a near miss to Contract Managers and fill in report if necessary
  • Ensure all machines are left in a safe location as practically possible and highlight any safety concerns * Ensure site is left safe upon leaving. i.e Any holes fenced off and dangers highlighted or marked
  • Ensure site is locked at the end of the day
  • Ensure any small equipment is safely locked away in steel containers
  • Ensure any lasers or other computer equipment is taken off site when possible and practical to do so.
  • Always Communicate effectively with Contracts Managers and Directors. Unsure of any aspect don't hesitate to phone.
  • Carry out setting out when need arises. Communicate this to relevant person (engineer/contract manage/director) if there is any doubt over this.
  • Highlight needs for setting out if/when required with Contracts Manager/Directors
  • Plan ahead when possible, for requirement of materials or setting out and communicate this
  • Become familiar and understand site requirements and file.
  • Operate in a safe, courteous and lawful manner always when on the highway
  • Be willing to put forward suggestions

Essential Requirements:

  • Experienced in supervising small team (2-3 colleagues)
  • Strong understanding of machinery maintenance and operation.
  • Willingness to undertake manual labour as part of the role.
  • Full UK driving licence. Company Van provided
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts.
  • Willingness to work away from home when required.

Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of sports turf management practices.
  • Understanding of irrigation systems and their operation/maintenance.
  • SSTSS or equivalent in site supervision
  • CPCS or equivalent in agricultural tractor.
  • NVQ Level 2 in turf surface maintenance.
