Weston College is the regional provider for the Prison Education Framework (PEF) across the South West of England and is now seeking to recruit an outstanding and highly motivated Lecturer in Functional Skills Maths to deliver a high quality curriculum at HMP Portland.

This is a full-time role, working 37 hours per week.

Day to day duties

  • Organisational and administrative work.
  • Preparation, assessment and marking.
  • Developing and maintaining a full course file including comprehensive scheme of learning and lesson planning.
  • Developing and completing ILPs and contextual statements to monitor individual learner progress.

Required skills and qualifications

  • Possess, or be willing to work towards, a recognised Teaching Qualification within the first two years of service.
  • A Degree, or professional qualification, which is appropriate to the work.
  • Knowledge and experience of current teaching and learning strategies.
  • Excellent computer literacy skills including an up-to-date knowledge of Microsoft Office.

About HMP Portland

HMP Portland is an adult male prison and young offender institution (YOI) on the Isle of Portland, Dorset, for men aged 18 and over. Residents can train and earn qualifications in professions such as bricklaying, painting and decorating and carpentry and joinery. Other courses offered include functional skills, PSD and music. Portland residents have the opportunity to leave the prison for short periods of time, this is known as ROTL (release on temporary licence) which can be used to gain work experience in the local community and prepare them for release.
